JOB SPECIFICATION

JOB TITLE: Building Supervisor

Grade: Level 3

Salary Range: £21,942 - £31,261

Unit / Department: Site Services/Laboratory Services

Reporting to: Building Manager

Job Purpose: To manage the day to day operations of laboratory areas and to assist in ensuring that the facilities are operated within the bounds of Modern Standard Safety Cases

Staff management responsibilities: Responsible for 3 support grade workers

Budget management responsibilities: No

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Ensure all support grade staff working within building support team are trained & following approved safe procedures in accordance with laboratory instructions.
2. Ensure that appropriate safety clothing and equipment is available, and is used as required under safety procedures.
3. Ensure that facility maintenance is completed within expected time schedules.
4. Routinely liaise with decommissioning team, Building Manager, Radiological Protection Advisor and Authority to Operate holder regarding day to day work within the facilities.
5. Act as facilities permit to work issuer for all maintenance & project tasks.
6. Motivate and develop staff through effective mentoring/coaching.
7. Authorised, where safety is being, or likely to be compromised, to stop operations within the facilities.
8. Required to investigate, determine causes, and resolve wherever possible:
• elementary causes of breakdowns/ failures of facility equipment,
• reasons for failure to deliver projects to programme,
• immediate causes of accidents to persons and damage to equipment.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

JOB TITLE: Building Supervisor

Grade: Level 3

EXPERIENCE: Experience in a supervisory or team leader role is desirable.
Experience of working in emergency roles such as that of Building Warden would be an advantage.


SKILLS/ABILITIES
Specific to Job: Sufficient awareness of safe systems at work.
Should possess practical skills and the ability to demonstrate a logical approach.
Familiarity with local operating instructions, method statements and risk assessments would be an advantage.

General: An effective team member

BEHAVIOURAL STYLE: Sound interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
