Infrastructure
Decommissioning the infrastructure that supported the fast reactor experiment is just as important as decommissioning the reactors themselves. In this section you will find more information about these projects.
An essential part of the original infrastructure of Dounreay was a system to discharge radioactive effluent from the chemical plants, waste facilities and reactors to the sea.
Redundant property with little or no radioactive hazard, such as laboratories, vessels and offices, is being cleared away.
The Dounreay estate includes property outwith the licensed site.
D8530, the sodium chemistry laboratory, was demolished in 2005.
