Accommodation

The original Dounreay estate included Tollemache House, Naver House and Ormlie Lodge in Thurso.

Naver House was developed as a hostel for apprentices and Ormlie Lodge, with added wings, served as a hostel for incoming workers.

Tollemache House opened in the 1960s as the UKAEA superannuation office.

Naver House was redeveloped in the 1970s as a home for old people run by Highland Regional Council. It is now a privately-owned business centre and home to DSRL’s specialist Training at Naver business.

Ormlie Lodge was sold in the 1980s, apart from one of the wings known as Brownhill Lodge which was retained as an off-site emergency centre.

In the early 1990s, following a reorganisation of the site’s emergency arrangements, Brownhill Lodge became vacant and the superannuation office relocated there, allowing Tollemache House to be redeveloped as the HQ of the local enterprise company.

In 2007, as part of the restructuring of UKAEA, Brownhill Lodge was inherited by UKAEA Ltd as the location of its pension administration business.
