  • 1966 – construction began

  • 1975 – synchronisation with the National Grid and sustained electrical generation
  • 1977 – PFR reached full thermal power

  • 9,250 GWh – total amount of electricity produced by PFR
  • 1989 was PFR’s best calendar year of operation, with gross generation of 47,231 MWd of electricity at an annual load factor of 51.8 per cent
  • 250 MW highest output by PFR 
  • March 1994 – reactor was shut down
  • 1967-1974 - £28.4 million construction costs
  • 2008-2024 - £338 million estimated decommissioning costs
  • 2024 – decommissioning due to be completed
