JOB SPECIFICATION

Job Title: Design Engineer

Grade: Level 4

Salary Range: £24,809 - £35,120

Unit / Department: Site Services / Balance of Site Decommissioning

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

You will provide skilled support to site wide projects and operations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Production of concepts, specifications, outline and detailed designs
2. Ensure that all engineering design and works are substantiated and commensurate with current legislation
3. Support the identification and implementation of appropriate standards, taking account of best practice and industry benchmarks
4. Supervision and review of designs undertaken by the in house design section and contract organisations to ensure new plant or modifications to existing plant are compliant with customer safety case requirements
5. Provision of an advisory and problem solving service
 


PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years experience of working in a design engineering environment is desirable. Alternatively, consideration may be given to someone starting their career in a design engineering environment who can demonstrate the right potential.
Knowledge of the working in an engineering environment on a Nuclear site is desirable.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree qualified engineer with membership of an appropriate institution is desirable.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Specific to Job:

Sound knowledge and understanding of the design process, including design justification and substantiation.
Demonstrable aptitude for project management
Sound understanding of safe working practises.

General:

Effective at leading tasks and overseeing the work of others.

BEHAVIOURAL STYLE:

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communication effectively both in writing and verbally are required.
