Design Engineer

TYPICAL JOB DESCRIPTION – DESIGN ENGINEER

Salary Range: £24,809 - £44,436

Unit / Department: Site Services Unit / Balance of Site Decommissioning Department

Reporting to: Design Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To provide an ‘intelligent customer’ role for design engineering, in support of the Dounreay Site objectives.
  •  To ensure the safe provision of professional design, by ensuring the proper use of design standards, experience, regulatory instruments, and to ensure procedures are adequately reflected in project proposals.
  • Create design documentation including engineering reports, proposals, specifications, calculations and reviews.
  • Support the development of projects by provision of the design philosophy from the pre specification stage onwards, including adherence to Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 1994.
  • Provision of professional and standardised design drawings, suitably substantiated with appropriate reference to industry standards and best practice.
  • Provide customers with tender packages for prospective new work.
  • Ensure all work is completed to pre agreed time/costs.
  • Provide Engineering apprentices with the required skills/knowledge base to enhance their professional development.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Key responsibilities are to coordinate with the Senior Design Managers, Project Managers, Design Engineers, customers and stakeholders ensuring that all work is carried out within budget time constraints. Duties include:

  • Prioritising and managing workload.
  • Ensuring completion of work to both time/cost.
  • Provide support to customer throughout the implementation of design lifecycle.
  • Ensure all drawing/ design effort is compliant with engineering best practice, fit for purpose intended and in accordance with current legislation and regulations where practicable.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant subject, or alternatively, to HNC/D level backed up by relevant experience.

BEHAVIOURAL STYLE

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally are required.
