ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Department: Engineering Assurance, Assurance Services Unit
Reporting To: Design Authority Assurance Team Leader
Salary Range: £32,000to £46,000 per annum (appointment dependent on skills and qualifications)
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Electrical Design Engineer within the Design Authority Assurance Team you will provide authoritative professional engineering advice and direction on:
• The interpretation and implementation of electrical standards and design process at Dounreay.
• Statutory and Regulatory compliance (throughout execution and in the delivered product)
• Best Practice (both internal and external to Dounreay) leading to improvements in design product delivery
• Competence of design process personnel including the identification of gaps in skill levels and setting standards for staff development
You will also apply professional knowledge and experience to provide assurance that:
• Design deliverables and products meet the identified requirements and are fit for their intended purpose
• Design products are safe to construct, install and operate
PERSON PROFILE
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree qualification or equivalent and holding chartered status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology or equivalent.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Practical knowledge and experience of electrical design engineering, particularly in respect of nuclear or other high hazard facilities.
• Experience of selection, interpretation and application of industrial design and engineering standards.
• Knowledge and experience of design/assessment of HV(to 11kV), LV and ELV electrical systems, protection schemes, GI and GNI standby systems, motor control and protection schemes, fire alarm and security systems, safety critical equipment, hazardous area equipment, building installations and electrical industrial plant and equipment.
• Knowledge and experience in application of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and BS7671:2008 Requirements for Electrical Installations.
• Knowledge and experience of Modern Standards Safety Case within the framework of an HSE Site Licence. Experience in engineering substantiation would be especially beneficial.
• Competence in reviewing and interpreting CAD design files.
• Experience in formal Project Management methods (e.g. Prince 2).
• The ability to organise and undertake several complex tasks concurrently with minimum supervision.
• Excellent communication and presentational skills, both written and interpersonal.
