Engineering Sponsorship Programme

DSRL is developing world-class expertise in nuclear decommissioning, waste management and site environmental restoration of its sites. Dounreay represents one of UK’s biggest and most complex environmental challenges involving a long-term programme of decommissioning.

To help ensure that the decommissioning work progresses in line with established plans, DSRL is offering sponsorship to individuals to undertake selected academic courses at The North Highland College UHI. This will encourage the development of engineering skills in various disciplines to help prevent local skills shortages in the future.
 

The Sponsorship Deal:


These sponsorships are designed to offer candidates the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for careers in engineering, managerial and/or business. Successful candidates will supplement their education with on-the-job experience and in-company training and development with DSRL.

The sponsored programme requires full-time attendance at The North Highland College, where you will study for the HNC Engineering Systems qualification. Completion of the course could mark the start of your career or the continuation of your studies to HND or Degree level.

The training and qualifications you will gain are highly valued in modern industry. An offer of employment with DSRL following sponsorship would be dependent on Dounreay Site requirements at the time, and your performance.

Successful sponsored students will receive financial assistance to contribute towards living expenses and study resources. You may also be offered paid vacation work at Dounreay out with term time.

Requirements:


You should:

  • Live within daily travelling distance of Dounreay
  • Have at least the minimum entry requirements (qualifications or experience) for entry to the HNC Engineering Systems course; typically one Higher from Physics, Technological Studies or Mathematics and at least three Standard Grades 1-2/Intermediate 2 passes including Mathematics, Physics/Technological Studies and English. Other equivalent routes will also be considered
  • Have a keen interest in Engineering
  • Show potential to successfully fulfil engineering, managerial or business positions in the future
