Dounreay is decommissioning a site in the North of Scotland that was one of the pioneers of nuclear reactor development.
In doing this, Dounreay are striving to be recognised as the best within our industry for safety, environmental responsibility and restoration of nuclear sites. We are looking for people – from enthusiastic graduates to experienced environmental professionals - to help us achieve our aim.
As an Environmental Advisor you will work as an important member of our project teams, providing environmental advice and ensuring work is undertaken in compliance with our environmental standards and regulations. This includes the production and maintenance of Environmental Management System documentation, Best Practicable Means (BPM) studies and other environmental assessments.
Although you’ll be qualified at degree level in an Environmental Science or have relevant experience in environmental management, it is essential that you have a willingness to learn – as the site has many unique challenges. Practical experience of environmental options studies and radioactive waste management would be advantageous.

The surrounding areas of Caithness is one of Britain’s great outdoor environments with famous surf breaks and dive sites, miles of tracks, trails and rivers for walking, cycling and kayaking and easy access to the Scottish Mountains. The well serviced towns of Thurso and Wick are within easy commuting distance and local housing is amongst the most affordable in the UK. All this makes it an ideal environment to escape the rat race and raise a family.
