Job Title: HEALTH PHYSICS SUPPORT

Grade: Level 3

Salary Range: £21,942 to £31,261 per annum

Unit/Department: Assurance Services/Radiological Assurance

Reporting to: Radiological Protection Assurance Manager

Job Purpose:
• To assist the RP Assurance Manager in providing health physics services to the Dounreay Site and in specifying the quality and technical standards required of the health physics services supplied under contract and other means.
• To assist in monitoring the quality of the health physics services supplied under the RP Services contract and in ensuring that the correct level of Radiological Protection Monitoring (RPM) and Dosimetry Service resource is provided to the site.


Staff management responsibilities: No direct staff management

Budget management responsibilities: No


ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. To provide assistance and support the RP Assurance Manager.

2. Delegated responsibility, from the RP Assurance Manager, for interactions with and direction of the RP Services contract supplier and other suppliers of radiological protection services at Dounreay.

3. To co-ordinate and conduct approval assessments for RPM personnel.

4. Through spot checks and reviews, highlight inadequacies and resolve inefficiencies to ensure that DSRL receive a fit for purpose and cost effective RPM Service.

5. Co-ordinating the collection of feedback information of the reliability, accessibility and overall quality of the service received by customers.

6. Attend DSRL planning meetings to assess the RPM resource implications of forthcoming DSRL work.

7. Co-ordinate the supply of RPM staff to meet project request work by the use of the Mainsaver work request system and other systems.

8. Co-ordinate the generation of RP Services contract supplier’s booking codes to link with DSRL charge codes, ensuring that DSRL project charges are correct.

9. Review, update, and where necessary commission operating instructions so that DSRL supplies an up to date set of working methodologies for RPM to adopt for DSRL tasks.

10. To be part of the team checking the quality of work undertaken and produced by the RPM services, including reviews of reports, “on the job” assessments of monitoring staff knowledge and practices.

11. Periodically visit, interact and collect feedback from RPM Services Supervisors on site regarding service provision.

12. To act as secretary at contract progress meetings.

13. Carry out periodic safety inspections of RP Services contract supplier’s personnel occupied areas on site.

14. Interacting with the RP Services contract supplier’s Approved Dosimetry Service (ADS) to ensure that all DSRL equipment and services are maintained to enable the ADS to supply the dosimetry services required for the site. Equipment and systems involved includes site Personal Air Sampler system, whole body monitor, wound monitor and air sample counting systems.

15. Act as the sites fixed contamination database administrator, providing training and support on system use and producing monthly reports on performance.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Job Title: Health Physics Support

Grade: Level 3

Experience: Health physics surveyor skills, knowledge and experience and knowledge of the radiological hazards at Dounreay is necessary.
 

Education/Qualifications: City and Guilds Stage I & II in Radiation Safety Practice, or equivalent. Basic IT skills including Word, Excel and ideally, Mainsaver

Key Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with managers and others of different disciplines and seniority.
Ability to produce user friendly documentation and to analyse numerical data in a logical and accurate manner
