JOB SPECIFICATION
JOB TITLE: Laboratory Analyst
Grade: Level 3
Salary Range: £21,942 - £31,261
Unit / Department: Site Services / Laboratory Services
Reporting to: Laboratory Leader
JOB PURPOSE
Support the laboratory leader in fulfilling work programmes by the timely delivery of analysis to agreed schedules.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Complete analysis and reporting to agreed timescales.
2. Ensure that line management is kept aware of progress and/or problems by maintaining a log, and by formally and informally reporting on a daily basis.
3. Minimise operational delays by ensuring that the laboratory leader is aware of any necessary safety clothing, tools and equipment required to meet operational demands.
4. Minimise operational delays by identifying constraints leading to unplanned downtime, and taking appropriate remedial action directly, or recommending such action to the Laboratory Leader.
5. Ensure that the Laboratory Leader is made aware of potential or actual infringements of discharge authorisations e.g. by highlighting anomalous results.
6. Undertake analysis and method development, under the direction of the Laboratory Leader, which meet customer requirements.
7. Support UKAS accreditation activities.
8. Ensure adherence to the terms and conditions of local instructions.
9. Ensure that radioactive materials movements are able to be properly executed by packaging and labelling the materials in accordance with specific transport regulations and requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
EXPERIENCE
Previous experience of working within a laboratory environment is required.
Awareness of quality control systems would be a distinct advantage.
Experience of working with radiometric is desirable.
Experience of working as part of a team, as well as on ones own initiative is desirable.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education to HNC level in chemistry/applied science or equivalent is desirable.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Specific to Job
Logical approach to problem solving.
Competent IT systems user.
Practical knowledge of DSRL systems would be an advantage, although full training would be provided.
General
Able to take forward issues with minimal supervision.
Methodical in approach to work.
Flexible and willing to move within the labs environment.
Experienced in wet chemistry and instrumental analysis desirable.
