Dounreay history brings windfall for charities
July 28, 2008
Charities in Caithness and north Sutherland are set for a cash windfall thanks to a new book marking the 50th anniversary of the nuclear experiment at Dounreay.
Proceeds from the sale of Fifty Years of Dounreay will boost the Dounreay Communities Fund, which last year dished out more than £40,000 to good causes locally.
The book, written by John O’Groat Journal columnist William A. Paterson, was officially launched on Saturday, July 26.
The venue was Halkirk Highland Games, where Dounreay parent company UKAEA hosted a marquee with business partners AMEC and CH2MHILL.
Published by North of Scotland Newspapers and funded by UKAEA and the NDA, the book includes some 150 photographs.
Fifty Years of Dounreay is available directly from North of Newspapers, Wick, and local retailers, priced £17.95. Mail order copies are available directly from North of Scotland Newspapers, Wick (£3.11 p & p for UK; £5.46 p & p for Europe; £9.29 p & p for rest of world). (ISBN 978-1-871704-37-2).
