NDA competition for site licence company

December 08, 2008

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority today announced its timetable for competing the ownership of Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd.

UKAEA, the current parent body of Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd, has welcomed the announcement.

DSRL managing director Simon Middlemas, in a message to staff, said: "Earlier this year, we made the successful transition to a site licence company, with full responsibility for the safe and compliant clean-up of the site. The next step in this process is competition for the ownership of the shares in the site licence company.

"The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority today has announced the timetable for this, with a decision about the new owners of DSRL expected by the end of 2010. Our restructuring in recent years was designed for this.

"It will enable the new owners to take over the senior management positions without destabilising the important task of continuing the safe clean-up of the site or the status of DSRL employees.

"In short, today’s announcement about the process of competition is an important development for those at the senior management end of the company but should have little or no effect on those doing the most important work at the sharp end – the task of safely cleaning out and dismantling this site, to schedule and cost.
