NDA director impressed by demolition progress
March 24, 2009
NDA director Jim Morse visited Dounreay to see the final stages of demolition of the plutonium criticality complex.
Surveying the piles of rubble, he declared it to be incredible progress, bringing the site one step closer to closure.
Mr Morse had previously been one of the first visitors to stand inside the cleaned up criticality cell in 2006, where experiments involving solid and liquid plutonium had been carried out during the 1950s.
Local contractor Gunns, who had the job of demolishing the facility, are now clearing up the rubble and separating the metal for recycling.
