Reactor decommissioning film goes live
October 01, 2009
A new film has been produced showing the decommissioning progress within the redundant Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR).
Dounreay's Prototype Fast Reactor was the second and last fast reactor to be built in the UK. The success of the experimental fast reactor at Dounreay led the British government in 1966 to order a prototype fast reactor power plant.
PFR's latest decommissioning success is the removal of four colossal metal tanks that once were an integral part of the system that transferred heat from the reactor to the electricity plant.
