NDA sets out clean-up goals for Dounreay

Dounreay’s owners today published for consultation their 2011/12 business plan, which includes a summary of key decommissioning tasks to be completed next year.
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority's list of targets for the site licence company DSRL to deliver next year include:
- Drain, decontaminate and seal the fuel storage ponds at Dounreay Fast Reactor
- Removal of DFR breeder
- Begin first phase of new low-level waste vaults
- Support NDA in the competition for a new parent body organisation for DSRL
Planned expenditure for 2011/2012 at Dounreay is £159 million
Other key decommissioning projects highlighted by NDA in the plan for next year include:
- Demolition of the old waste treatment plant known as D1207
- Complete 305 of the estimated 335 batches of liquid metal from the primary coolant of DFR
- Complete all design work for the new installation of the new active analysis lab
- Complete decommissioning of the Dounreay Material Test Reactor ancillary building sentencing tanks
- Agree and formally modify regulatory milestones based on the flat £150 million funding scenario
