March 23, 2011
Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd has published an updated “site specific baseline” in support of a strategic environmental assessment carried out by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
The 12-page report contains information across a range of headings, including air quality, energy use, biodiversity, landscape, heritage, water, waste, economy, traffic, noise and health and safety.
It describes future developments at the site, including expected levels of discharges, the generation of radioactive wastes and declining manpower needs.
Environmental issues covered in the report include fuel fragments found in the marine environment, monitoring, surrender of the PPC permit and waste management licensing.
