Scottish Affairs Committee visit Dounreay
June 24, 2011
The Scottish Affairs Committee toured Dounreay yesterday on its visit to Caithness and the northern isles in connection with its inquiries into the Crown Estate and health and safety in Scotland.
The committee is looking at ways in which the Crown Estate can best act in the public interest and its relationship with local communities which are directly affected by the decisions it makes.
Ian Davidson MP, Chair of the Committee, said: "We are also taking the opportunity of the visit to talk to people about the effectiveness of health and safety regulation in Scotland.
"In addition, we are looking at how employment and enterprise are being sustained in the present economic difficulties."
While on site, the Committee visited the Dounreay Fast Reactor, which the workforce have been decommissioning without accident for the last fourteen years.
