Safety record passes 12-month milestone
July 06, 2011
It is now more than a year since anyone decommissioning the nuclear site at Dounreay suffered an injury that kept them off work for more than three days.
More than 3.6 million man-hours of work, stretching back 382 days, have been completed without a lost-time accident reportable under the RIDDOR regulations.
The site has some way to go to match its best previous run – 469 days, or 4.79 million man-hours, which ended in June 2010 when a worker suffered a broken limb.
Injury rates at Dounreay are running at 25 times below the level found in the construction and manufacturing sectors.
