New police firearms range is planned
March 08, 2012
Members of the public are being invited to find out more about a new police firearms training facility for Civil Nuclear Constabulary officers stationed at Dounreay.
CNC is an armed force tasked with protecting nuclear materials in the UK.
Its current firearms training facility in Caithness no longer meets modern standards, so a new facility is planned at the nearby Forss Business Park.
The £1.6 million cost is being met by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority as part of its commitment to maintain the security of nuclear materials for so long as they remain at Dounreay.
A planning application will be lodged in the near future. A drop-in event for local residents is being held at Forss Hall from 6.30pm to 8pm on Monday, March 12.
