Dounreay fuels - closing date for comments is March 23

March 16, 2012

NDA has decided to transfer 44 tonnes of breeder materal by train to Sellafield and is now seeking views on the remainder of its fuel at Dounreay

March 23 is the closing date for the submission of views to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority about options for managing its stock of nuclear fuel at Dounreay.

The NDA inherited approximately 100 tonnes of fuel from research programmes at Dounreay that ended in the 1990s.

Last year, it decided to transfer 44 tonnes known as "breeder" to Sellafield and in February invited views on options for the remainder of the fuel at Dounreay.

The closing date for comments on  the options - removal from the site or continued storage at Dounreay - is March 23.

More information and details about how to respond can be found in the NDA credible options paper and in a presentation given by NDA to the Highland Council and Dounreay Stakeholder Group.
