Dunnet Bay

The beach at Dunnet Bay is located approximately 22 kilometres to the east of Dounreay, on the shore of the Pentland Firth.

It was identified by Dounreay Particles Advisory Group as worthy of investigation after studying the results of research carried out by Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd.

The first full survey of the beach was carried out in 2005. Further surveys of the whole beach were carried out in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Following discussion with Dounreay Particles Advisory Group and SEPA, it was decided that further full surveys of the beach were not necessary. A smaller area at the main access points should be survey on conjunction with surveys of the strandline.
