Environment strategy

Our Safety Health Environment Quality (SHEQ) Policy POL 0019 commits Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd to:

  • Minimise the adverse environmental impact of our activities
     
  • Comply with all relevant environmental legislation
     
  • Deploy an environmental management system certificated to ISO 14001
     
  • Continually improve our environmental performance

In support of these policy aims our strategic objective for 2011/12 is to focus our efforts on improving:

  • The Dounreay environment
     
  • Our environmental performance and ability to learn lessons
     
  • How we comply and demonstrate compliance with our environmental obligations
     
  • Our environmental management processes

DSRL’s strategy for achieving this objective requires:

  • The preparation and implementation of a resourced environmental improvement plan
     
  • Critical review, analysis and development of:

    - environmental aspects

    - environmental metrics

    - environmental performance

    - methodologies

    - management arrangements

    - arrangements for demonstrating of compliance with obligations
     
  • Benchmarking and joint working with other sites
  • Continuing to develop a close working relationship with the environmental regulator SEPA
     
  • Improvement plan actions based on these reviews and analysis
  • The commitment of senior staff to the delivery of the plan
     
  • That a portion of the staff bonus payment will be linked to the delivery of the plan.
