Discharges

Some radioactive waste can be disposed of safely without detriment.

The disposal of radioactive waste from nuclear sites is regulated by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency under the Radioactive Substances Act 1993.

DSRL is authorised by SEPA to dispose of some radioactive waste under the terms of an Authorisation.

The document sets limits on the types of waste that can be discharged and obliges DSRL to monitor the impact of discharges on the environment.

DSRL is authorised to dispose of radioactive waste in liquid, gaseous and solid forms.
