SAFETY CASE ENGINEER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Department: Engineering Assurance, Assurance Services Unit
Reporting To: Safety Case Production Team Leader
Salary Range: £24,000 to £35,000 per annum (appointment dependent on skills and qualifications)
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support the production of safety case documentation for facilities, decommissioning and engineering projects.
• Support, undertake and manage preparation of Dounreay modification Reports.
• Provide authoritative, professional safety and technical advice to project teams to enable informed and accurate decisions to be made and to support resolution of project issues within the context of the Dounreay Site Life Time Plan.
• Provision of advice on regulatory matters.
PERSON PROFILE
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Ideally qualified to degree level in a science or engineering discipline or HNC plus equivalent experience.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Experience of working within a nuclear, rail, process-based or other closely regulated environment.
• Ability to interpret engineering and operational data, and regulatory/due process requirements to develop and justify cogent, logical safety arguments.
• Excellent communication and presentational skills, both written and oral including the ability to produce accurate and concise ad hoc and standard reports to a high standard.
• The ability to liaise/communicate with staff at various levels across the organisation to reach agreement on work standards and the application of national and industry good practice.
• The ability to organise and undertake several complex tasks concurrently with minimum supervision.
• Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications.
• High degree of motivation and commitment.
• Experience in incident investigations, HAZOPs and post-project reviews would be advantageous.
