Local economy
In 2007, the Caithness and North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership (CNSRP) was formed between the four key public sector organisations:
- Scottish Government
- Highland Council
- Nuclear Decommissioning Authority
- Highlands and Islands Enterprise
NDA, DSRL and Babcock provide support to CNSRP and concentrate their efforts on activities which align with the CNSRP programme.
A programme of activities integrated with the CNSRP can be found in DSRL’s annual socio economic development plan.
Economic impact study
In 2006, HIE, part-funded by DSRL, commissioned a baseline study of the economic impact of decommissioning Dounreay. The then Scottish Executive announced additional funding for HIE to regenerate the economy of Caithness and north Sutherland in response to the site closure programme.
Work is underway to update this baseline.
