Strategy and plan

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority socio economic policy provides the basis for all socio economic activity at NDA sites.

In 2010, Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd produced a socio-economic strategy.

DSRL publishes an annual socio economic plan.

Socio economic activities carried out by DSRL, working in partnership with the NDA and Babcock, fall into five main categories:

  • Workforce transition
  • Education and upskilling
  • Marketing our skills
  • Support to CNSRP activities
  • Support to economic diversification

Key milestones for DSRL in 2011/2012 were:

  • Complete the DSRL workforce transition strategy
  • Support the Training Department in their future accommodation strategy and development of a business plan
  • Support the Commercial Department to include Community Benefit Clauses within the procurement process.
  • Complete the preliminary feasibility work for a potential commercial opportunity.
  • Support the offsite relocation of the Apprentice Training Department
  • Continue to understand the future skills needs
  • Investigate lifetime plan opportunities which could bring socio-economic benefit to the area.
  • Complete support to the North Highland College Engineering Skills Centre project.
  • Support the CNSRP on high priority projects as identified in the programme
  • Provide administration support to the Dounreay Communities Fund
  • Provide administration support to the Caithness & North Sutherland Fund.
