Dounreay Stakeholder Group

The arrival of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in 2005 saw significant changes in communuication between sites and surrounding communities.

Until then, local liaison committees had been the formal link. The creation of these committees dated from the Windscale fire late 1950s.

A site stakeholder group replaced Dounreay Local Liaison Committee in 2005.

A wide variety of organisations with an interest in Dounreay and its impact on the community make up the membership of Dounreay Stakeholder Group. Members of the public can also join the group.

The group meets in public four times a year. Sub-group meetings are held in between these times.

Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and regulators are among those who provide regular reports to the group.

The group has a budget of £30,000 a year from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. In addition, secretarial support is provided by Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd.
