SOFTWARE ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Unit/Department: Site Support/Balance of Site Decommissioning

Reporting to: Design Office Manager

Salary Range: £32,491 to £46,237

Duration: 12 months for first phase, thereafter for maintenance and integrity

Job Purpose: To ensure all engineering software systems are fully operable and are recoverable in the event of failure.

Staff management responsibilities: No direct staff management

Budget management responsibilities: No

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To provide an “intelligent customer” role for the support of engineering software systems
2. Create, maintain and manage a configuration management system for all engineering software systems on the Dounreay site. Also ensure correct and proper handover documentation for these systems.
3. Oversee and advise on the implementation of new and modified engineering software systems on site.
4. Ensure staff competence on site is maintained for the purpose of supporting modified engineering software systems
5. Ensure all systems are correctly maintained in accordance with Maintenance Instructions and regimes.
6. Ensure that system access is secure and appropriate to all types of operator.
7. Regularly review software and identify the need for updates.
8. Act as point of contact for breakdowns and co-ordinate system repairs with support from maintenance teams within agreed timescales.
9. Identify, procure and determine the required stock levels for critical hardware and repairs.
 

PERSON PROFILE

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Qualified to degree level in relevant discipline or comparable experience.


EXPERIENCE

• Extensive experience of SCADA/PLC system integration is essential.
• Experience in SCADA/PLC system management procedures,
IFix and Wonderware is desirable.
 

KEY SKILLS/ABILTIES

• Ability to organise and successfully deliver several complex tasks with the minimum of supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
• A high level of motivation and commitment is necessary.
