Exempt Waste
This is waste that is exempt from the Radioactive Substances Act.
Such as equipment which may have been used in areas of the site where it was likely to come into contact with radioactivity but the levels are so low they cannot be detected even with the most sensitive monitoring devices.
Other equipment may have traces of radioactivity that are lower than levels found in nature, for example in ground coffee or stones.
As this waste is exempt from the requirements of the Radioactive Substances Act, it can be disposed of as industrial waste.
